Menu
The City of Ottawa has launched a community wide campaign focusing on preventing childhood obesity this has prompted us to review our menus, and the information we are providing to parents to ensure the Family Centre is promoting healthy eating habits.

This means that, at the Family Centre:
Juice will be 100% fruit juice and only served once a day. If juice is served with a.m. snack, then water will be served with p.m. snack. If milk is served with a.m. snack, juice will be offered with p.m. snack
Milk will always be offered at lunch
Juice will be limited to one 4 oz serving, water will always be available
The menu will be structured to offer the total number of child size servings, as directed by Canada’s food guide, in a day
Fruit & vegetables will be unlimited servings. After two servings of the grain, meat/meat alternative and dairy options children will be encouraged to add more vegetables and fruit to their meal/snack. In consultation with parents, some children will be discouraged from eating more than two servings from the grain, meat/meat alternative food group.
Cheese is very high in fat content, which is reflected in the sat. and trans. fat percentages. Please note that the cheese being offered is only brick type cheese, not processed. The nutrition that cheese provides also outweighs it’s fat content when offered in moderation.
