Welcome to Kanata Research Park Family Centre
Kanata Research Park family centre is an onsite, licensed, non-profit Early Learning Centre with continuum of care for children from 18 months to 10 years including part-time care. We are based on developmentally appropriate practices that provide opportunities for active engagement with other children and adults in a positive environment.

What's New For Families?

Best Start is a provincial initiative for the purpose of strengthening partnerships and enhancing the integration of all community supports for children and their families.  Its purpose is to introduce a new way of thinking and develop an understanding within our communities to work together so that every child has the opportunity to learn and develop to their full potential.  Every organization, program or business that services families with children birth to 6 years of age can play a significant role in making this happen.  Through knowledge of available research and resources, we are able to advocate to city wide programs and services for the delivery of needed programs in our community.

In early February 2009, The Family Centre was chosen to become the South March Best Start hub.  This means that we have a vision for the future which includes bringing existing programs and services into this community.  The Best Start initiative relies on the volunteer work of many dedicated child advocates and does not include any funding, however; we believe that we are building strong and lasting partnerships for years to come.  For more information or to find out how you can get involved contact Esther Seaman at

Best Start Tip

Choose books and songs that rhyme.  Children need to understand that rhyming occurs when the end of the two words sound the same.  Often children get confused and think that words that start with the same letter rhyme.  Choose two rhyming words from the book or song you are reading or singing.  Repeat them slowly.  Ask your child if he can tell which part of the words has the same sound.  Give some examples to show that it is the same ending of the word that makes those words "rhyming words."  Encourage your child to come up with more words that rhyme.
